Yankees and Chi Sox Split Twin Bill Amid Poor Air Quality

Braving the elements of poor air quality, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox found a way to play through, and split double-header on Thursday.

While the air quality wasn’t as awful as it was on Wednesday, the challenge was still out there for both teams, especially with word that the New York Giants and Jets had to cancel practices on Thursday due to the conditions.

The White Sox took Game 1 6-5 with Eloy Jiminez providing the game winning home run in the seventh inning.

The two-run bomb came off of Michael King who dropped to 1-2 on the year. It was his first blown save of the season.

The Yankees had a 5-4 lead thanks in major part to three RBI and a homer by Willie Calhoun on Thursday afternoon.

In the night cap, Randy Vasquez dominated the White Sox, shutting them out over 5.2 innings of work. Ronny Marinaccio and Clay Holmes wrapped things up nicely in relief.

Backing up Vasquez’s huge night, Gleyber Torres and Billy McKinny powered the Yankees with a pair of home runs in the win.  Torres two-run jack in the fourth inning gave the Yankees the lead.

Even though New York wound up losing two-of-three to the White Sox, the focus now turns to the Boston Red Sox. You know what that means! Buckle up!
