Smoke from the Canadian wildfires dominated at Yankee Stadium last night in the Bronx.

The smoke that has lingered over the Northeastern United States due to the Canadian wildfires made their way through the tri-state area on Tuesday creating an eerie sight for residents in New York City and New Jersey.

At Yankee Stadium, the Bronx Bombers were busy playing host to the Chicago White Sox, and the sight of a cloudy, smoke-filled sky became a huge part of the contest. Many fans questioned why the game was played at all in such conditions.

The Yankees lost the game 3-2 to the White Sox, as Chicago starter Lucas Giolito carried a no-hitter through six innings, but all anyone could talk about were the alarming conditions in the skies above.

Ironically, the Yankees Triple-A affiliate the Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders postponed their game against the Norfolk Tides due to the poor air quality.

The Syracuse Mets also postponed their contest on Tuesday night due to the conditions.

The smoky skies affected the Somerset Patriots game in Hartford, Connecticut, a game Somerset won 4-0 behind a six-inning, two-hit shutout by Clayton Beeter. Yet, the Patriots and Yard Goats played through the hazy conditions inspite of it all.

The haze and smoke hung around overnight and continues today. The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert for parts of New Jersey and New York City. Those with chronic conditions are encouraged to stay inside, and outdoor activities at some area schools were postponed as a result.

The Department of Environmental Protection that an Air Quality Action Day for Particular Matters was declared for Wednesday.

Sensitive individuals, the elderly and children should reduce their time outdoors. Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul issued an air quality health advisory for the entire Empire State.
