A dominating start by Richard Fitts coupled by some late inning magic, led to a 3-1 victory for the Somerset Patriots Wednesday afternoon against the Erie Seawolves.

Fitts had easily his best start in about a month for Somerset, holding the Seawolves scoreless over six innings of work, scattering five hits, walking one and striking out five. The victory moves Fitts to 2-3 on the year, and lowers his ERA down to 5.26.

Offensively, the game was a scoreless grudge-match until the sixth inning when the Patriots scratched out a run on a RBI groundout by Jession Rosario to make it 1-0.

The score held at 1-0 until the top of the ninth when Somerset tacked on a pair of runs. An RBI double by Max Burt, followed by a sac fly for Mickey Gasper, which subsequently scored Burt from third, gave Somerset a 3-0 advantage.

Reliever Alex Mauricio was a huge factor in the win, holding Erie scoreless over two innings of relief to bridge Fitts effort with Steve Jennings who held on for the save.

The Patriots and Seawolves continue their series Thursday night at 6:35, and you can catch it here on Fox Sports New Jersey.
