NBA Playoffs: Western Conference 2nd Round Recap
Denver Nuggets vs. Phoenix Suns
The Nuggets and Suns series was an interesting one because both teams had high-powered offenses. The biggest question in this series was how can Kevin Durant and Devin Booker carry this Suns team. The Nuggets are a complete team and showed it.
In Game 1 the Nuggets looked to have it all going for them. Jamal Murray led all scorers with 34 points. Six players scored in double digits for the Nuggets.
In this game, they looked to be steps ahead of the Suns and this set the tone for the series. In the next game, it was closer, but the Nuggets still pulled out the win by 10. Booker dropped 37 but it was no match for Nikola Jokic’s 39 points and 16 boards.
The Nuggets are up 2-0 on the series and it’s looking like the Nuggets can get this in five, but the Suns had other plans. In Game 3 Booker had it going for him. He had 47 and Durant had 39. No one else on the team scored more than seven points.
The crazy thing is Jokic had a great game with 30 points, 17 rebounds, and 17 assists. Jokic in Game 4 was a man on a mission. All-series Suns big man Deandre Ayton has had nothing to offer Jokic, but he did a number on him in Game 4.
Jokic had 53 points and 11 assists, but the Nuggets came up short 129-124. Booker and Durant combined for 72 points, and it was the only way for them to win the game, question is can they do it again?
Heading back to Denver tied at two apiece there was speculation that the Suns could get it done but Denver reminded them and everyone else who they were. Five players scored in double digits for the Nuggets including Bruce Brown who came off the bench for 25. This game showed that the Nuggets are far superior to the Suns.
Game 6 heading back to Phoenix the Suns never gave them a chance. In the first half, the Nuggets were up by 30 and nothing after that changed. The Nuggets walked past the Suns to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals. They will meet the Lakers once again like they did back in the bubble.
Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The defending champs want to make it two in a row, but the Lakers have a healthy Anthony Davis and Lebron James, this will be different.
This is one series the West has been waiting to see. In Game 1 they showed that it is different. They go on the road and steal the first game just like in the Memphis series. Five players scored in double figures including Dennis Schroder coming off the bench.
Game 2 was a different story the Warriors came out hot and never turned it off. Davis had 30 in the first game but only 11 in this one. Six players scored in double figures for the Warriors including Klay Thompson’s 30 points.
Heading back to Los Angeles for Games 3 and 4 the Lakers knew they had to take care of business and they did. Game 3 wasn’t even close Lakers won 127-97. Six players scored in double figures for the Lakers including Davis scoring 25 and pulling down 13 boards.
Game 4 was a lot closer, but the Lakers managed. Great shooting from the mid-range from Lonnie Walker IV helped the Lakers leave with a 3-1 series lead. In the fourth Walker came in the game and scored 15 points. Curry kept the Warriors in it with 31 points but no one else was able to generate consistent offense.
Heading back to the Bay area the Warriors are looking to win three in a row to stay undefeated in the west in the playoffs. Despite the Lakers having five guys score 14 or more points they came up short 121-106.
Andrew Wiggins had 25 points and Draymond Green had 20 points in this rout. Going back to Los Angeles the Lakers knew they couldn’t go back to the Bay for Game 7.
The Lakers took care of business, Austin Reaves hit a halfcourt shot before the half and the Lakers didn’t look back since. Bron had 30 points, nine assists, and nine rebounds. One of his best games of the playoffs and one of the best for the Lakers. They won 122-101 to win the series 4-2. Now they will play the Nuggets in the Western Conference Finals.
