Saquon Barkley Won’t Sign Franchise Tag before Offseason Workouts
Just when you thought the Giants were enjoying a fairly quiet off-season, Saquon Barkley has poured some gasoline on the fire.
Barkley will not sign his Franchise Tag before offseason programs begin next week, which makes him ineligible to participate in practices.
The Giants had hoped to ink Barkley to a long-term deal, but both sides remain in a stalemate. According to ESPN, Barkley had an offer of $12 million annually on the table in November and turned it down.
This should not come as a surprise. Saquon Barkley is trying to regain some leverage in negotiations for a long-term deal with Giants, who hold most if not all the cards.— Art Stapleton (@art_stapleton) April 12, 2023
Joe Schoen has said NYG prepared to have Barkley play on the tag worth $10.1M for 2023. https://t.co/2whoDD5SGo
If he doesn’t sign a long term deal by July 15, Barkley will have to play on a one-year deal work $10.091 million. He ran for 1,312 yards last season, his first full season since his rookie year of 2018.
