N.J. Taco Spot Known For Birria Set To Open Second Location
A New Jersey taco spot that is known for its birria is opening a second location. Los Barboras Birria became a hot spot in Belmar and now they are opening up another restaurant in Asbury Park. It opened its first location at 1110 Main St. in Belmar in 2021.
“The reason I wanted to open in Asbury Park is because I’ve lived there for 20 years,” owner Edwin Vazquez told NJ Advance Media. “I first started selling birria tacos out of my house to friends and family. Our friends and family told us to open a restaurant.”
The new Los Barboras will be located at 704 Main St. in Asbury Park in May. The timing is based on the busy summer season. While the Asbury Park location hasn’t announced a set date for its grand opening, Vasquez is already looking into more areas to open future restaurants.
“This is our second location, but in the next two to three years, we’re going to have probably five locations in New Jersey,” Vazquez said. “Our main goal is to hit New York.”

Vasquez said his vision is to have birria be the main focus like similar fast casual brands. He told the publication that he is scouting a space for a third location in Brick.
“The main thing with birria is you have to sell only birria. If you have a big menu, birria can get lost on the menu,” Vazquez said. “We want to be like Five Guys, only beef, or Chick-fil-A, only chicken.”
Los Barboras’ menu contains Mexican birria tacos, quesadillas, tortas, ramen, and more. Birria-style meat is stewed meat cooked in a beef broth and is spicy.
The new Asbury Park location will open from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. from Monday to Friday. On the weekends it’s open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
