With Opening Day a week away, Forbes has released its lastest values for all 30 Major League Baseball teams with the New York Yankees topping the list at a value of $7.1 billion.
That is an increase of 18%, according to the study.
The Los Angeles Dodgers ($4.8 billion), Boston Red Sox ($4.5 billion), Chicago Cubs ($4.1 billion) and San Francisco Giants ($3.7 billion) all follow the Yankees in that order.
The New York Mets are ranked as the sixth most valuable franchise in the sport at $2.9 billion.
A lot of the value in baseball teams are related to television revenue. Over the last decade and a half, teams most teams have invested heavily in their own television broadcasts, i.e. the YES Network and SNY in the New York/Tri State Area.
The Yankees made $143 million in TV revenue last season.
Smaller markets like Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, San Diego, Pittsburgh, and Oakland (a franchise that is considering moving to Las Vegas) all struggled to generate revenue in television marketing and advertising.
