Another day, another “life-changing” life hack you stumbled upon on social media. The newest trend to surface up, people eating oranges in the shower. Most people enjoy oranges in juices and marmalades or use the zested peel to add a tangy flavor to cakes and desserts. Some are saying on social platforms including TikTok, that eating this citrus fruit has several health benefits.

Supposedly, the shower’s heat may enhance the smell and taste of the orange. It seems less dangerous compared to most viral life-hacks like repairing damaged hair with perfume, dry scooping pre-workout supplements or eating sleepy Nyquil chicken. According to Huff Post, oranges are a great source of vitamin C and only about 10 to 12% of adults in the U.S. are getting enough fruits and vegetables daily.

This isn’t the first-time eating oranges in the shower has appeared. Back in 2015 it emerged on Reddit and resurfaced again a couple of years later on Buzzfeed.

Here are some of the alleged benefits of eating an orange in the shower:

  • Say Yes To Less Mess

Peeling and eating an orange can leave a mess on your clothes, on the table, or on the floor. Eating the messy fruit in the shower makes it easier to rinse off.

  • Sensory Overload, The Good Kind

The shower’s heat supposedly enhances the smell and taste of the orange. Making your shower a more pleasant experience with its aroma.

  • More Vitamin C For You

MedicalNewsToday.com said that oranges are a type of low-calorie, highly nutritious citrus fruit that contributes to strong, clear skin and can help lower a person’s risk of many conditions.

This latest trend doesn’t seem to be that unusual. People have been showering with scented essential oils and hanging plants like eucalyptus for quite some time. Eating an orange in the shower may be on to something or just a quick shower snack with a side of water and steam.
