Avatar: The Way of Water has been the movie on everybody's mind since its successful holiday release. However, it's climbing much faster than some may have thought as it's just become the most successful movie according to Box Office Mojo.

Directed by James Cameron, this is the first in the line of a new age of Avatar films. With the next installment being announced for the end of December 2024. However as for Avatar 2. It quickly made its way up the worldwide ranking passing films like; Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Jurassic World: Dominion. Now it has taken its spot at the top as it passed Top Gun: Maverick this week. Overall the film has brought in 1.5 billon USD world wide with a majority of the revenue coming from overseas.

Though according to reports the film has only just started to make a profit. After James Cameron, corrected his earlier estimate that the film would need two billion USD before it would break even. That is of course if we are taking him for his word.

Though if this start is any indication of the future. Avatar 2 may reach that two billion milestones by late spring if not sooner.

As for its position on the all-time stage, its current ranking is 10th so it still has a way to go before it breaks into the top 5 having to pass Spider-Man: No Way Home and Avengers: Infinity War. Though it will be really impressive if it were able to pass Avatar which has held its spot as the top-grossing movie of all time since it's release in 2009.

This would be a major moment in Cinema history, though for now Avatar 2 is being well received by viewers and critics currently sitting at a 7.9 on IMDb and an impressive 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.

When looking at the movies that turn 40 in 2023, one thing is very clear: 1983 kind of ruled!

In 1983, a holiday classic was born with A Christmas Story. Meanwhile, a star was born in Tom Cruise thanks to Risky Business. Women started cutting up their sweatshirts thanks to Flashdance, and a new sex symbol was born thanks to that gold bikini in Return of the Jedi. We also said hello to a little friend (Scarface), gave our daughter the shot (Terms of Endearment) and were gagged with a spoon (Valley Girl.)

Here are 29 movies that turn 40 in 2023. Even the biggest cynic would agree that 1983 at the movies was totally tubular.
