MD Meyers who was named Big Ten Player of the Year out of Rutgers has been drafted by NYC FC in the 2023 MLS Super Draft. He was chosen with the eighth pick in the third round, 66th overall.
Per Rutgers Athletics:
“Myers becomes the 20th overall MLS draft pick for the Scarlet Knights and the first since David Greczek was chosen by Sporting KC in 2017 with the 58th overall.
The Delran, New Jersey native is the first player in program history to be selected to NYC FC, which was founded in 2013, and the fourth to play for a New Jersey/New York MLS franchise.
Myers has made a huge impact since transferring to Rutgers ahead of the 2022 fall season. He was unanimously named Big Ten Player of the Year as well as an All-Big Ten First Team selection. Myers was also named to the United Soccer Coaches First Team All-North Region as well as the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and First Team All-ECAC.
After leading the Scarlet Knights to their first Big Ten Championship in program history, Myers was named Offensive Player of the Big Ten Tournament.
During the 2022 slate, Myers scored 13 goals and added seven assists for a conference-leading 33 points. He also ended the season ranked fourth in the nation in goals (13), third in shots on goal per game (1.90) and fifth in total points (33). Not only did he pace the Big Ten in goals and points but also shots (69) and shots on goal (40).
Myers was the only player in the Big Ten to reach double-digit goals and more than 20+ points. He found the back of the net in 10 outings, including three braces, and earned points in 13 contests.“
