Astros a Win Away from World Series Title
The Houston Astros are a win away from winning its second World Series title in six years after holding off the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in Game 5 at Citizen’s Bank Park.
Justin Verlander earned his first ever World Series game victory with a workman-like five innings, where he allowed only a run on four hits and four walks. Verlander struck out six Phillies.
His efforts bested former Met Noah Syndergaard, who gave up two runs in three-plus innings of work. Both runs charged to Syndergaard were courtesy of Jeremy Pena, who singled in a run in the top of the first inning, and homered in the fourth, chasing Syndergaard from the game. Pena’s homer made him the first rookie shortstop to homer in a World Series.

Philadelphia would cut the deficit to 3-2 in the eighth inning when Jean Segura drove in Nick Castellanos on an RBI single off Rafael Montero.
After the run scoring hit, Astros manager Dusty Baker went right to the bullpen to bring in closer Ryan Pressley who shut the door over 1.2 innings of work.
