After getting word just a couple of hours before kick-off that they would be without their star running back Samuel Brown V for the remainder of the season with a lower body injury, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights struggled to muster much offense against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, falling 31-0.

It's the first time since November 20 of last year that Rutgers was totally shutout by an opponent. That day Penn State pitched a 28-0 shutout.

Against Minnesota, Rutgers managed only 134 yards of offense, and were 2-of-10 on third downs. Minnesota dominated time of possession, holding the football for a little over 41 minutes of play.

Like Rutgers, Minnesota is built on a strong running game, and it was working on Saturday for the Golden Gophers who snapped their own three-game losing streak. Mohamed Ibrahim ran for 160 yards on 36 carries with three touchdowns.

In fact Ibrahim scored each of Minnesota's first three scores as it built a 21-0 lead midway through the fourth quarter.

Overall, Minnesota ran for 253 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per carry, compared to the 2.3 yards per carry for Rutgers.

Freshman quarterback Gavin Wimsatt got the start for Rutgers, and struggled. He completed only 6 of 17 passes for 68 yards and an interception.

Rutgers will host Michigan on Saturday, November 5 at 7:30 from SHI Stadium.
