‘X Games’ Will Start Including Esports Under New Ownership
BEIJING, CHINA - AUGUST 21: Zhang Xingyu of China competes during the X Games China 2022 skateboarding on August 21, 2022 in Beijing, China. The X Games has been in China since 2019, and the first tour of U Pool skateboarding competition was held in Beijing, Shanghai and Xi'an in 2021. (Photo by Lintao Zhang/Getty Images)
The X Games just got a new owner and with them are some massive changes coming that may see Esports be added to the event’s roster. Especially when you consider the new owner used to be a Vice President at Twitch!
Now CEO Steven Flisler used to be the vice president of original content and the executive producer of Twitch Rivals. However now after a majority of the annual extreme sports events, X Games was bought from ESPN. Some changes will be coming to the competition. Fisler of course kept his plans as much a secret as he can. However, he did announce that they will be integrating competitive gaming into the X Games brand and even more so at their live events.
Move over Tony Hawk, we got Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 in the building. What is also being discussed is the plan to have the event accessible online via platforms like YouTube and Twitch. This just makes sense to me as more and more users are coming to Twitch and YouTube live every day. YouTube has nearly 1/3 of the world’s population as active users. Alongside Flisler, is Tony Hawk who is now an official brand steward.
We’ll just have to wait and see what Flisler’s, plans are for the event with the next X Games taking place early next year in Aspen, Colorado, from January 27th to January 29th. If I had to take an obvious guess, I would say sports that can be done and tracked virtually like cycling, snowboarding would be possible. I can’t foresee Esport titles, like League, Rocket League, or any FPS game being added into the mix, but I’m sure we’ll find out as more information becomes available.
Until then make sure you sign up for our newsletter so you never miss an Esports moment right here with us at Fox Sports New Jersey.
Are the San Francisco Giants Poised to Get Aaron Judge Away from Yanks?
An article was published on NJ.com speculating that the San Francisco Giants could be a serious player for Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge.
“This looked, sounded and felt like the end of an era, especially when Judge ended one encounter with a veteran reporter by saying, ‘I’ll see you somewhere down the road.'”
“The Giants have targeted Judge and are prepared to spend whatever it takes, a person with knowledge of the Giants’ thinking told NJ Advance Media after meeting with members of the franchise’s ownership group. The person, who isn’t authorized to speak on behalf of the team, was granted anonymity.
“Judge is at the top of the Giants list and they won’t be underbid,” the person said. “If they miss out, it won’t be because of money.”
The person added that the Giants planned to entice Judge further by signing at least two-high priced free agents.
“The Giants are not going to stop with Judge,” the person said. “They have so much money freed up.”
Would it happen? Would Judge actually leave New York and the Yankees for the Bay area? He is from that part of the country, and was a Giants fan when he was growing up. It would make sense from that standpoint. New York is not for everyone. That said, Judge has publicly stated he wants to be a Yankee.
Then there is Steve Cohen and the Mets, who could be waiting in the weeds. The Mets are not afraid anymore to spend big money, and they could try to lure Judge to Queens in addition to bringing back Jacob deGrom, Edwin Diaz, and Brandon Nimmo.
Sports Illustrated’s Jennifer Piacenti has the Yankees as the favorites to retain Judge this off-season at -500, with the Giants not too far behind at +425. The Mets are at +1400 according to her methodology.
Whatever happens, it is going to be a wild off-season ahead for the Yankees and Major League Baseball. Judge is going to be one of a handful of players who are going to rock the market one way or the other.
