Rutgers Field Hockey Indy Van Ek named player of the week.

Rutgers field hockey claimed a Big Ten weekly award on Monday. Indy van Ek was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week by the conference office.

Van Ek scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season on Sunday at No. 12 Syracuse. The goal came in the final two minutes of the contest, as RU mounting a late push, cutting Syracuse's deficit to 4-3.

A native of Deventer in The Netherlands, Indy Van Ek has scored a goal in three straight games, tallying against Syracuse, Maryland and Northwestern. Following her goal in the team's win over No. 3 Northwestern, she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors that week as well.

Rutgers concludes its regular season slate this weekend with two home games. No. 19 RU hosts No. 5 Penn State on Friday, a 3 p.m. game that will be nationally televised on Big Ten Network. On Sunday, a 1 p.m. game against James Madison will feature a pregame Senior Day ceremony for Rutgers' six seniors (Annie WalshAmanda BeckIsabella ManciniRachel HoustonMaggie Lamb and Carly Snarski).
