Rutgers is making a change to offensive coordinator. On Sunday Head Coach Greg Schiano announced the club would dismiss O.C. Sean Gleeson while promoting Nunzio Campanile to interim offensive coordinator.
The decision comes two days after Rutgers suffered a 14-13 loss to Nebraska at SHI Stadium. RU held a 13-0 lead at the half on Friday, but couldn't score again the rest of the night as Nebraska rallied. The Scarlet Knights were hurt by three turnovers in the second half.
Rutgers, who started the season 3-0 has dropped its last three games, all in the Big Ten. RU is off this week before facing Indiana at SHI Stadium on October 22.
Per ESPN, Rutgers is ranked No. 108 in total offense (334 yards per game), No. 104 in scoring offense (22.8 PPG) and No. 118 in team passing efficiency. Last year, Rutgers was 120th in the nation in total offense and offensive scoring.
In a statement posted to the Rutgers Athletics website, Schiano says:
"This was a difficult decision, but I believe it is in the best interest of our program to make a change at offensive coordinator. I want to thank Sean for his hard work and wish he and his family all the best in their future endeavors.
Nunzio Campanile will be our interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach."
Campanile is no stranger to changes at Rutgers. He was the interim head coach when Chris Ash departed. He was once the head coach at Bergen Catholic.
