Somerset Patriots Top Dogs, Get Ready for Playoffs Tuesday

Now, the Patriots will gear up for a best of three playoff series against the Sea Dogs, which will kick off on Tuesday, September 20 at Hadlock Field in Portland. The best of three series will be decided at TD Bank Ballpark in Somerset beginning on Thursday, September 22.

Despite losing this week’s series to Portland 4-2, the Patriots 6-3 win ensured a season series victory over the Sea Dogs. The Patriots ended up going 13-11 vs. the Sea Dogs this season.
The Patriots ended the 2022 regular season having won 14 series, splitting six series and losing three.
Ending the season with a record of 83-53, the Patriots finished 30 games above .500 with the best record in Double-A and the fourth-best record in all of Minor League Baseball.
Somerset’s 3.60 pitching staff ERA led the Eastern League in 2022 and ends the season as the third-best ERA in MiLB. The pitching staff’s 1.17 WHIP led MiLB and its .218 BAA tied for third in MiLB.
The Patriots’ pitching staff set a new team record with 1,359 strikeouts in the regular season. Offensively, Somerset also set a new franchise record in home runs with 205.
The Patriots’ final four home runs of the regular season came on Sunday afternoon at TD Bank Ballpark.
Rodolfo Duran (9) gave the Patriots their first lead with a third inning solo home run. Jesus Bastidas extended the lead with an RBI-single one inning later.
The Sea Dogs tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-run single by David Hamilton.
Somerset then scored the decisive runs of the game in the first, when Jasson Dominguez led off with his first Double-A home run.
The home run by Dominguez made him the 21st Patriot to hit a homer during the 2022 season.
Two batters later, Andres Chaparro (19) solidified himself as the Patriots’ home run leader in 2022.
Entering Sunday tied for the team lead in home runs with Anthony Volpe, Chaparro hit his team-leading 19th to give Somerset the decisive runs in the game.
Somerset’s final home run of the regular season was hit by Bastidas (18), a solo shot in the eighth inning
Bastidas, who had homered only twice in his first four career seasons, hit a career-high nine in 2021, before doubling that total this year with Somerset.
Sunday’s game marked the Patriots’ 12th this season having hit 4+ home runs in a game, with half of those occurrences taking place against Portland.
Albert Abreu earned the win for the Patriots, pitching a scoreless sixth inning in the first game of his MLB rehab assignment for the Yankees.
The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue as the Patriots begin their first playoff series as the Yankees’ Double-A affiliate on Tuesday, September 20 at Hadlock Field in Portland with a 6 p.m. first pitch.
