Rutgers Men’s Soccer Tops Rider, Improves to 2-1-2
For the first time in 29 years Rutgers and Rider met on the pitch with Rutgers winning the Garden State showdown 2-1 on Friday night to improve to 2-1-2 on the season. Rutgers is 1-0-2 in its last three games.
Jason Bouregy scored his first ever Rutgers goal (second of his career) in the 36th minute to give RU the 1-0 lead. Three minutes later, MD Meyers extended the Rutgers lead to 2-0 with Bouregy providing the assist. For Meyers, the score was his fifth goal of the season already.
Rider would mount a comeback in the second half. Adel Al-Masude converted on a free kick right outside teh box in the 51st minute to narrow the RU lead down to 2-1.
Rider nearly found itself in an identical situation in the 74th minute with an opportunity to connect on a free kick, but Rutgers goalie Aurie Briscoe made a tremendous save to preserve the lead, and in the end, the victory.
