Coming off a disappointing showing in the second leg of the 2022 Subway Series, the Mets needed Jacob deGrom to be every bit the ace that they are used to seeing. And deliver he did. deGrom was once again solid in a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field; the victory was New York's 80th of the season.

While he wasn't overpowering, deGrom did strike out nine batters over six innings of work. The only blemish on his night was a solo home run by Ryan McMahon in the sixth.

Offensively, the Mets remained a little sluggish. New York had only eight hits and left nine men on base. Still thanks to deGrom the three runs was more than enough.

Pete Alonso's two-run shot in the third inning proved to be the biggest difference in the victory.

Seth Lugo and Edwin Diaz both worked in and out of trouble in relief, before Adam Ottavino secured the victory with a clean ninth inning.

The Mets and Rockies meet again on Friday.
