Rutgers Women’s Soccer picked up right where they left off in 2021 with a huge win on the road to open the new campaign. Rutgers opened the season with a 1-0 victory over New Mexico on opening night Thursday. It was the 21st consecutive opening day win in program history.
Junior forward Allison Lowrey was responsible for the games only goal — the ninth goal of her career — in the 22nd minute as RU took the early 1-0 lead and never looked back.
Meagan McClelland, one of the best goalies in the country last fall, picked up right where she left off with three saves and a shutout in net. She now owns 37 career shutouts, and is the NCAA active leader in said category.
Sophomore Riley Tiernan recorded 14 assists, and junior midfielder Sara Brocious had 10 assists.
The Scarlet Knights stay in Albuquerque through the weekend, and will face UNLV on Sunday.
