Jets fans are holding their collective breaths waiting for official word on what happened to quarterback Zach Wilson, who left Friday's preseason opener in Philadelphia with a knee injury.
Wilson tried to dive for extra yardage on a scramble, apparently twisted his knee, and struggled to get back up off the ground. Wilson stumbled, fell back to the turf, and stayed down for several minutes before getting helped off the field by the Jets' medical team.
Wilson walked to the locker room on his own power.
After losing Mekhi Becton for the season, potentially losing Wilson for an extended period of time would be a huge crimp in the plans of head coach Robert Saleh and General Manager Joe Douglas who had hoped that this young team would turn the corner this year.
It didn't take long for Jets fans to absolutely lose their minds on social media, with many proclaiming the season over, and guessing that Wilson had torn his ACL before any facts came out.
As it turns out, Saleh told reporters after the game that initial tests show that Wilson's ACL is believed to be intact, which would be confirmed by an MRI. There is no official word on any tear.
Beat reporters were also saying that Wilson was seen walking around the locker room after the game, although he was moving gingerly and stiff.
Finally, ESPN's Dianna Russini reported that sources believe that the injury to Wilson is actually his PCL, with a more definitive answer coming. In short, Wilson's season is not over.
