Boyle Dominates Ponies to Snap Skid
Official Somerset Patriots Press Release: Bridgewater, NJ — The Somerset Patriots (61-39) used another dominant start from Sean Boyle to snap their season-long losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (39-61) on Saturday night.
The start came one day after Boyle was named by Minor League Baseball as the Eastern League Pitcher of Month for July, when he posted a 3-0 record and 0.82 ERA over five starts.
On Saturday, Boyle tied his career high of seven innings pitched for the fourth time this season, allowing only two runs (one earned) in his 8th winning effort of the season, tying for the Eastern League lead.
Offensively, Somerset had to take three separate leads in the game. Chad Bell scored two runs in the game, including the Patriots’ first. He scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Brandon Lockridge in the third inning.
After Binghamton tied the game with an unearned run in the fourth, Somerset retook the lead on back-to-back doubles by Jeisson Rosario and Blake Perkins.
Rosario ended the day 2-for-4, with his third straight two-hit game.
Luke Ritter dinged Boyle for a solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning, for the only earned run allowed by Boyle in the game.
With the game tied entering the bottom of the inning, Max Burt gave the Patriots their third and final lead of the game with his second hit of the day. Anthony Volpe added an RBI with a sacrifice fly that gave the Patriots a 4-2 lead.
Emmanuel Ramirez pitched two scoreless innings for the Patriots to earn a six-out save, his second save of the season.
With the win the Patriots move on the 61-39 (17-14), while the Rumble Ponies drop to 39-61 (11-20). The Rumble Ponies lead the series 4-1 entering the finale.
