MARINERS 7 – YANKEES 3
The Yankees got a glimpse of what they missed out on at the deadline when Luis Castillo took the rubber for the Seattle Mariners and delivered a gem against the Bombers in a 7-3 Seattle victory.
Castillo held the Yankees to just three runs on five hits over 6.2 innings of work to earn his first victory as a Mariner since Seattle acquired him from the Cincinnati Reds. It’s the second time this year Castillo has beaten the Yankees; he beat them a few weeks ago as a Red.
The Yankees had been “in” on the Castillo sweepstakes for a while until Seattle swooped in to get him. Instead New York pivoted to Frankie Montas of Oakland.

On the flip side it was another rough outing for Gerrit Cole. Cole gave up six runs — all of them in the first inning, but would settle down to pitch six innings for New York.
Eugenio Suarez, Carlos Santana and former Mets prospect Jared Kelenic all homered for Seattle in the opening frame. Jesse Winker had a home run for the Mariners in the seventh inning.
After dropping two of three against Seattle, the Yankees are 18-18 in their last 36 games. They will visit former mate Jordan Montgomery and the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend.
