Official Somerset Patriots Press Release:

Bridgewater, NJ – Minor League Baseball has announced that Somerset Patriots RHP Sean Boyle has been named their Double-A Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for July 11 – July 17.

Boyle tied a career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts on Saturday night in Portland, with seven scoreless innings, while striking out nine batters. It was Boyle’s third time this season matching his career-high in strikeouts and his second time this season matching his career-high in IP. Boyle allowed just two hits with no walks and faced one over the minimum in his third straight winning effort.

The performance also served as Boyle’s seventh straight quality start, the longest active streak in all of affiliated baseball. Boyle’s nine total quality starts on the season are the second-most of any pitcher in Minor League Baseball.

Over this seven-game stretch, which began on June 11, Boyle is 5-1 with a 1.83 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, .200 BAA and 42 strikeouts, compared to 11 walks in 44.1 innings pitched.

Boyle’s five wins and 44.1 IP over this time period are both the most of any pitcher in MiLB over that span. His seven wins on the season enter the All-Star break tied for the most in the Eastern League, while his 88.0 IP and 97 K rank fourth.

The right-handed pitcher from Selden, New York is a former 25th round selection of the Yankees in the 2018 MLB Draft out of Dallas Baptist University.

The Pitcher of the Week Award is the second of Boyle’s professional career, after he was also given the honors during the week of August 22, 2021. In his Triple-A debut on August 19, 2021, Boyle threw a seven-inning no-hitter for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as part of the back end of a double header.

Boyle is the fifth Patriot this season to receive MiLB honors and the fourth to win Pitcher of the Week. OF Blake Perkins (Player, April 18- April 24), RHP Jhony Brito (Pitcher, April 25-May 1), RHP Randy Vasquez (Pitcher, May 9-May 15) and RHP Will Warren (Pitcher, July 4-11) have previously been recognized as the Eastern League’s top weekly performers.

With Boyle being awarded Pitcher of the Week honors one week after fellow Patriots teammate Will Warren, the Patriots’ four Pitcher of the Week honorees in 2022 are the most of any team in the Eastern League.
