Portland, Maine – Jeisson Rosario hit for the cycle, but the Somerset Patriots (9-9, 53-34) fell to the Portland Sea Dogs (13-5, 43-44) 12-11 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.

Rosario accomplished the rare feat with a 4-for-5 afternoon, beginning with a two-run home run (5) in the first.

Portland wasted no time taking the lead with five runs in the bottom of the frame. Christian Koss’s (11) three-run blast and Alex Binelas’ (4) two-run shot made it 5-0.

The Sea Dogs put four more runs on the board in the second on an error, an RBI single by Koss, a sacrifice fly by Stephen Scott, and a second blast by Binelas (5).

Trailing by seven, Somerset rallied for four runs in the fifth. Cristian Perez’s RBI groundout and Austin Wells’ RBI single preceded Rosario’s two-run triple to cut the lead to 9-6.

Scott singled in another run in the sixth for Portland to make the score 10-6.

The Patriots answered in the seventh with an RBI single by Jesus Bastidas and a sacrifice fly by Rodolfo Duran.

Down to their last out, Chad Bell (12) launched a go-ahead three-run home run to briefly give Somerset the lead.

However, Portland would win the game on a walk-off two-run double by Kole Cottam in the ninth for the 12-11 final.

Ryan Fernandez (1-0) earned the win after he allowed three earned runs on four hits in two innings pitched. Carson Coleman (1-2) took the loss with two earned runs on two hits in an inning pitched.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Friday, July 22 for a 7:05 pm game versus the Reading Fightin Phils (Philadelphia Phillies) at TD Bank Ballpark.
