The Yankees just keep on dominating the American League. New York earned its Major League best 60th win of the season on Thursday in a 6-5 victory over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
A grand slam home run by Josh Donaldson combined with a solo shot by Aaron Hicks pushed the Yankees out to a 5-0 lead.
Rafael Devers did keep Boston in the game. His two-run homer off Gerrit Cole in the bottom of the third inning, cut the Yankees lead down to 5-2. His three-run bomb off Cole in the fifth made it a 6-5 game.
Cole would be charged with five runs over six innings of work. He would still get the victory, his eighth of the year.
The Yankees bullpen was again fantastic. Willy Peralta, Michael King and Clay Holmes combined over the final three innings to blank the Red Sox, with Holmes earning his 16th save.
