Reading, Pennsylvania –The Reading Fightin Phils (1-0, 30-40) defeated the Somerset Patriots (0-1, 44-26) by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium.

New York Yankees RHP Domingo Germán went 3.1 scoreless innings, allowed two hits, and struck out three in his rehab start for Somerset.

Anthony Volpe got the scoring started in the top of the third with an RBI double down the left-field line.

Reading took the lead with a three-run fifth inning. Wendell Rijo and Jonathan Guzman’s RBI singles and a Vito Friscia RBI double made it a 3-1 ballgame.

Somerset got one back in the eighth when Jeisson Rosario drew a bases-loaded walk for the 3-2 final.

Noah Skirrow (4-4) went seven innings and allowed a run on five hits for the win. Mitch Spence (2-4) took the loss after he allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits in 2.2 innings of work. Brian Marconi (10) earned the save with a perfect ninth inning and two strikeouts.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road in Reading with a 7:00 pm game against the Fightin Phils at FirstEnergy Stadium on Wednesday night.
