METS 5 - MARLINS 3

The New York Mets continue to have their way against the Miami Marlins, this time winning 5-3 for the second straight night to take another series from a division rival. New York is now 5-1 on the year against the Marlins in head-to-head action.

This time it was Pete Alonso who provided the fireworks both early and often in order to make the difference for New York. Alonso's second inning home run off the railing in right gave New York an early 1-0 lead.

It was a lead New York would build up to 3-0 on an RBI ground out by Marc Canha and a RBI single by Eduardo Escobar.

However home runs by Jesus Sanchez and Bryan De La Cruz tied the game in the fifth. It was up to Alonso again to spark the Metropolitans, and he did with a solo blast in the eighth inning to break the 3-3 tie, handing New York a 4-3 lead.

Brandon Nimmo tacked on some insurance with a RBI double in the ninth, and it was up to Edwin Diaz to lock up another save. He did so seamlessly, striking out the side in the ninth to preserve the victory for New York.

The Mets go for the sweep on Sunday.
