Bridgewater, NJ – Powered by three Anthony Volpe RBI, the Somerset Patriots (35-20) blanked the Akron RubberDucks (31-25) by a final score of 6–0 before 7,891fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday night.

Volpe opened the scoring in the bottom of the third with an RBI double off of the left field wall to knock in Max Burt. Josh Breaux followed up two at-bats later with an RBI double to center to plate Volpe and extend the advantage to 2-0.

Burt increased the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth after he scored on a fielder’s choice by Elijah Dunham.

Rodolfo Duran came home on a Burt ground out before Volpe brought home two more runs on another double in the bottom of the sixth to make it 6-0. Volpe went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI on the night.

“We want to win every night,” said Volpe after the game. “You got a clubhouse full of guys that really care about winning and it’s easy to work really hard when you know everyone else is doing the same thing.”

Sean Boyle (3-3) tossed a season-best six scoreless innings and struck out seven batters to earn the win. Tanner Burns (1-2) allowed two earned runs through 2.2 frames in the loss.

“It was an awesome environment,” said Boyle after his commanding performance before a packed TD Bank Ballpark crowd. “To do well in it and have the crowd behind you, it was just a perfect night.”

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Sunday, June 12 with a 1:05 pm game against the RubberDucks at TD Bank Ballpark.
