Three Home Runs Give Patriots Series Finale Win In Binghamton
Binghamton, New York- The Somerset Patriots (32-18) defeated the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (19-31) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-4 in the finale of a six-game series at Mirabito Stadium.
Josh Breaux (10) put the Patriots on the board in the top of the first inning with his team-leading tenth home run of the season, a solo shot off rehabbing Mets pitcher Tylor Megill to give Somerset a 1-0 lead. Binghamton responded with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the frame, coming off the bat of Ronny Mauricio (8) to tie the ballgame at one. Elijah Dunham gave Somerset a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a sacrifice fly, bringing home Anthony Volpe. The Rumble Ponies took the lead in the bottom of the third on back-to-back home runs, a two-run blast by Francisco Alvarez (10) and solo shot by Ronny Mauricio (9), giving Binghamton a 4-2 lead. Chad Bell (6) put the Patriots within one with a solo home run in the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 4-3. Brandon Lockridge (4) delivered the go-ahead blow in the top of the sixth with a two-run blast, scoring Breaux and giving the Patriots a 5-4 victory. Sean Boyle (2-3) earned the win, after he allowed four runs on seven hits over five innings and five strikeouts. Jose Mujica (1) recorded the save in a perfect ninth inning of work. Alec Kisena (1-5) took the loss, as he allowed two runs on two hits in four innings of work. The 2022 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on Tuesday as they return home for a 6:35 PM game versus the Akron RubberDucks (Cleveland Guardians) at TD Bank Ballpark.
