Jada Pinkett Smith Addresses Will Smith, Chris Rock Oscars Slap

Jada Pinkett Smith has addressed the infamous slap from this year's Oscars. As has been reported (often), her husband Will Smith assaulted comedian Chris Rock on the Oscars stage back in March.

Jada opened the latest episode of her Facebook Watch show Red Table Talk saying, “This is a really important Red Table Talk on alopecia. Considering what I’ve been through with my own health and what happened at the Oscars, thousands have reached out to me with their stories. I’m using this moment to give our alopecia family an opportunity to talk about what it’s like to have this condition, and to inform people about what alopecia actually is."

The actress then addressed the night of the Oscars: "My deepest hope is that these two intelligent, capable men have an opportunity to heal, talk this out, and reconcile. The state of the world today... we need them both and we all actually need one another more than ever. Until then, Will and I are continuing to do what we have done for the last 28 years, and that’s to keep figuring out this thing called life together. Thank you for listening.”

After the incident, Will Smith apologized to Rock publicly and voluntarily resigned from the Academy. Shortly after his resignation, the committee decided to ban Will from any Academy events in person or virtually for 10 years. Following the Academy's punishment, the King Richard actor reportedly stated, “I accept and respect the Academy’s decision." Other than Rock mentioning the slap at his comedy shows following the incident, the comedian has not formally addressed the Oscars slap, and said he won't until he gets paid.

The slap heard from around the world Sunday night (March 27) sparked fans to do what they do best during a moment in pop culture: make memes.

Will Smith won his first Oscar Sunday night for his portrayal of Richard Williams (tennis greats Serena and Venus Williams' father) in King Richard. However, shortly before his acceptance, he slapped Chris Rock for making an insensitive joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

Since the incident, Will has apologized to Rock and Jada plans to begin healing from the ordeal.
