Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (26-12) defeated the Reading Fightin Phils (17-22) in the series finale by a final score of 4–1 before 5,412 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon. 

Logan O’Hoppe delivered the first run of the day with an RBI double into the left field corner in the top of the first to give Reading an early 1-0 lead.  

Anthony Volpe (5) wasted no time in tying the game up as he launched a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the inning. Volpe batted 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored on the afternoon.  

After Max Burt plated Rodolfo Duran on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth, Blake Perkins brought home Brandon Lockridge on another sacrifice fly the following inning to give the Patriots a 3-1 lead.  

Oliver Dunn then extended the Somerset lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double that knocked in Burt.  

Jhony Brito (4-2) earned the win after he allowed an unearned run and struck out two batters through five innings. Derek Craft recorded the save (3) as he retired the final three batters of the game.  

Braden Zarbnisky (1-1) gave up a run in his lone inning pitched for the loss.  

The Patriots have now notched four consecutive series wins and stay atop the Eastern League Northeast.

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road on Tuesday, May 24 with an 11:00 am game against the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.
