Rutgers men’s lacrosse is heading to the Final Four for the first time in program history.
Rutgers stamped their ticket with an 11-9 win over third ranked Penn in the NCAA Quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon.
Men’s lacrosse joins Rutgers women’s soccer as being the two programs to make it to their respective Final Four this collegiate sports season. They are also the first Rutgers’ men’s program to make it to a final four since 1994 (men’s soccer).

According to ScarletKnights.com, ” The defeat of No. 3 Penn ties for the program’s highest ranked win in program history (No. 3 Ohio State in 2017 and No. 3 UMass in 2003) and the highest seeded team RU has ever defeated in an NCAA Tournament. It is the sixth ranked win in one season for the program, marking the most ranked victories in one campaign (records dating to 2003).”
Rutgers never trailed Penn, were tied with them on three separate occasions.
Shane Knobloch led the way with three goals; Mitch Bartolo had a pair of goals for RU.
Rutgers awaits the winner of Delaware vs. Cornell. Rutgers will play the Final Four on Saturday May 28 at either 12 noon or 2:30 p.m.
