The 2022 Rutgers Baseball team can add another record to their extensive resume: 40 wins. The Scarlet Knights notched their 40th win of the season in dominating fashion, 14-2 over St. Joe’s in the regular season home finale at Bainton Field. The victory ties the 2022 squad with the 2001 squad as the only two in program history to win 40 regular season games.
As has been the case most of the season, the longball played a big role in the victory. Richie Schiekofer (3-for-4, 2 RBI) drilled a home run to left that gave Rutgers a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning.
After Nick Cimillo drove in Ryan Lasko with a RBI single, Chris Brito crushed a three-run homer to left to push Rutgers up 6-1. Danny DiGeorgio later added a two-run double in the bottom of the third inning to push the Rutgers lead to 8-2.
Evan Sleight tacked onto the lead with a solo homer of his own to make it 9-2 as Rutgers was well on its way to a convincing victory.
There is only one series left in the 2022 season, at Michigan which begins Thursday. The Big Ten Tournament will begin May 25, with the NCAA Tournament beginning June 2.
