RANGERS 5 – PENGUINS 2
After a disheartening loss in Game 1 of their Best-of-Seven quarterfinals series vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins, the New York Rangers responded with a resounding 5-2 victory to even up the series.
Artemi Panarin and Frank Vatrano each scored goals, and had multiple assists in the victory for the Blue Shirts. In fact Panarin and Vatarno both scored goals in the third period that put the game out of reach.
Ryan Strome’s goal three minutes into the second period gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead, which was augmented by Chris Kreider’s second goal of the series some nine minutes later.
After recording 79 saves in a 4-3 loss in Game 1, Igor Shesterkin was again phenomenal in net, stopping 39 of 41 shots that came his way.
The scene will shift to Pittsburgh for Games 3 and 4 beginning on Sunday.
Perhaps the coolest moment of the night came during a timeout with 12:51 to go in the second period when Yankees’ Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo and D.J. LaMahieu were spotted on the jumbo-tron chugging some beers.
