Ryan Lasko hit two home runs for Rutgers in a series sweep of Ohio State, May 1, 2022. Rutgers Athletics.

The number 24 team in the land pulled off another incredible comeback, this time storming back from an 8-3 deficit to stun Ohio State 11-8, completing a three game series sweep.

The Scarlet Knights hit six home runs in the effort including two each from Ryan Lasko and Nick Cimilo, and home runs by Danny DiGeorgio and Chris Brito. Rutgers now stands at 36-9 on the season and 15-3 in the Big Ten.

Richie Schiekofer’s RBI single in the sixth inning was just a harbinger of things to come. Soon the flood gates opened when Lasko launched a three-run bomb to left-center to brought Rutgers back to within 8-7.

Ohio State completely fell apart after the bomb. DiGeorgio was hit by a pitch, while Cimilo and Brito both singled to load the bases. Evan Sleight grounded out into a RBI as DiGeorgio came across to score, tying the game.

It was all bombs away after that. Lasko came back to hit his second homer of the day in the seventh inning to give Rutgers a 9-8 lead. An inning later Cimilo and Brito both went deep as Rutgers tacked onto their lead to make it 11-8.

After three different pitchers were roughed up for Rutgers, Sam Portnoy settled things down, tossing two and two-thirds innings of two-hit ball. It was exactly what Rutgers needed to settle in and make the comeback. Ben Gorski got the victory in relief, while Dale Stanavich got the save, his 10th of the season.

Rutgers will visit Seton Hall on Tuesday, before hosting Maryland on Friday.
