Bridgewater, NJ – The Portland Sea Dogs (10-7) defeated the Somerset Patriots (10-7) by a score of 2-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday night.

The Sea Dogs plated the first run in the top of the second on a Tyler Dearden RBI single. Sean Boyle was able to get out of the inning without allowing another run by striking out three consecutive batters despite having runners on the corners and no outs.

Anthony Volpe tied the game on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Jesus Bastidas. On the night, Volpe batted 2-for-3 and got on base three times, his second multi-hit game of the season.

Izzy Wilson brought in the winning run with a solo home run (1) in the top of the ninth, marking back-to-back days with an RBI.

Boyle threw five innings and allowed a run, while striking out seven in a no decision. Jacob Wallace (1-0) recorded the win with a scoreless eighth inning.

Somerset’s bullpen pitched four innings and allowed a run with four strikeouts. Steven Jennings (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up the go-ahead run.  

Andrew Politi earned the save (2) after retiring the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.  

The 2022 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue at home on Thursday, April 28 with a 6:35 pm game against the Sea Dogs at TD Bank Ballpark.
