Hartford, Connecticut – Blake Perkins smacked two home runs and drove in four runs to lead the Somerset Patriots (8-6) to a 7-4 win over the Hartford Yard Goats (7-7) at Dunkin’ Donuts Park on Saturday evening.
Michael Toglia got the scoring started with a two-run home run (2) in the first inning.
Somerset tied up the game in the fourth on a Chad Bell RBI single and a sacrifice fly by Jesus Bastidas.
A home run by Willie MacIver (5) in the bottom of the inning put the Yard Goats back in front.
Perkins (3) then hit a three-run homer in the top of the fifth to give the Patriots a 5-3 lead.
Hartford got another run in the sixth on an error to cut the lead to 5-4.
Perkins’ (4) second blast of the night in the seventh put Somerset up 6-4. He finished the night 3-for-5 with three runs scored.
Anthony Volpe came home to score on an error in the ninth for the final run of the game.
Kyle Zurak (1-0) picked up the win after he allowed a run on a hit and three strikeouts in 1.2 innings pitched. PJ Poulin (0-1) took the loss with two runs on a hit in 0.1 innings pitched. Steven Jennings (1) earned the save with three strikeouts in three innings of work.
