RUTGERS 19 – IONA 1
The Rutgers baseball team extended its win streak to 16 games with a dominating effort of Iona on Tuesday at Bainton Field to the tune of 19-1. it was the second time this year Rutgers has won by such a score, and 12th time this season RU has scored more than 10 runs in a game.
As quoted on ScarletKnights.com, Head Coach Steve Owens said of his team’s effort: “There was some good stuff through the lineup,” head coach Steve Owens said. “We didn’t really chase balls today. We got in good counts and we got a lot of hits early in the game.”

An 11-run second inning powered Rutgers to victory. Ironically, RU already came into the bottom of the second with a 3-0 lead going into the inning. Jason Shockley, Evan Sleight, Chris Brito, and Josh Kuroda-Grauer all had RBI singles to stake Rutgers to a 7-0 lead. Jordan Sweeney hit the exclamation point of the inning with a 3-run homer that made it 10-0. Garrett Callagahan added a solo shot to put RU up 11-0.
Overall, Sweeney led the way with five RBI on a 4-hit afternoon. Kuroda-Grauer went 2-for-4 with four RBI. Chris Brito also had a four-hit afternoon with four RBI. Evan Sleight finished the day with a pair of hits, three runs scored and two RBI.
Wyatt Parliament got the victory, tossing 5-2/3 shutout innings for Rutgers. He walked three and struck out five. Rutgers goes for its 17th consecutive victory on Wednesday against Princeton.
