Shaheen Holloway Leaves St. Peter’s Named Seton Hall Head Coach
After guiding St. Peter’s to a historic run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament there were rumblings that head coach Shaheen Holloway would take the vacant head coaching job at his alma mater, Seton Hall. Holloway initially denied those rumors.
By Wednesday night, Holloway was named the next head coach of the Pirates.
“Life has a way of coming full circle,” said Holloway. “This is certainly a full-circle moment for my family and I. Seton Hall is near and dear to my heart; it’s where I became a man, where I met the love of my life, where I spent countless hours honing my crafts as a basketball player and a basketball coach.
“To say that I’m excited to get started as the head men’s basketball coach at Seton Hall University would be an understatement.”

Holloway replaces Kevin Willard, who departed the Pirates for the Maryland Head Coaching job last week. Ironically, Holloway, who starred at Seton Hall in the late 90s/early 00’s, was an assistant on Willard’s coaching staffs at Iona and Seton Hall.
As a player, Holloway helped guide the Pirates to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2000, with a breakout game against Oregon in that year’s tournament.
In four seasons as the head coach at St. Pete’s, Holloway guided the Peacocks to a 64-54 record, and won MAAC Coach of the Year honors in 2020. This year, he guided the Peacocks to the 15th seed of the NCAA Tournament out of the East region. The Peacocks went on to upset No. 2 Kentucky in the first round, before upsetting No. 7 Murray State in the Round of 32, and No. 3 Purdue in the Sweet 16 to send the program to its first ever Elite Eight appearance.
North Carolina eliminated the Peacocks 69-49 on Sunday. It is not clear based on reports who will replace Holloway at St. Peter’s.
