NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ – Three city men have been arrested and charged in connection with a robbery in which a machete was reportedly used to take a cell phone and a wallet.

Ceferino Victoria-Pelaez, Eduardo Funez, and Sergio Herrera-Guiterrez, all from New Brunswick, are facing charges stemming from a robbery that was reported to have occurred Thursday, March 24 at about 9:55 p.m., according to the New Brunswick Police Department.

Police said the incident happened on the 200 block of Somerset Street.

Victoria-Pelaez, 39, has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Funez, 20, has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Herrera-Guiterrez, 34, has been charged with armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

An investigation completed by the New Brunswick Police Department resulted in the arrest of the men on Friday, March 25, according to Rutgers police.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, was not injured during the incident, police said. He was not identified by police.

The man was identified by police as being affiliated with Rutgers. The Rutgers University Police Department uses the term "affiliated" to describe the school's students and staff and faculty members.

The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with additional information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
