NEW YORK, NEW YORK – MARCH 16: Spencer Dinwiddie #26 of the Dallas Mavericks celebrates after hitting a game winning shot with no time on the clock to defeat the Brooklyn Nets 113-11 as Bruce Brown #1 of the Brooklyn Nets looks on during their game at Barclays Center on March 16, 2022 in New York City. Coming into this game against Dallas the Nets were riding a four game win streak. The streak was snapped after a Spencer Dinwiddie buzzer beater. The Nets lost 113-111.
Tuesday night Kyrie Irving had a career night and put up 60 points on the road against the Orlando Magic. Wednesday the Nets came back home meaning no Irving because of the vaccine mandate that New York City still has.
Durant had himself a good game, he had 23 points, 10 assists and six rebounds. Others on the team attributed as well, Goran Dragic had a season-high of 21 points. Bruce Brown had 17 points and Andre Drummond had 14 points and was a monster on the boards grabbing 17 rebounds.
Early in the fourth Durant hit a three giving the Nets a 93-79 lead but the next four minutes after that belonged to the Mavericks. They went on a 15-2 run and cut the lead to one by the 7:53 mark. The Nets were able to get the lead back up to six but the Mavs went on another run. Scoring eight straight and leading by two with 3:08 left to play.
With no Irving a lot of the attention fell on Durant. The Mavericks often sent over a second or even third defender to force Durant to give the ball up. Durant hit the go ahead three to give the Nets the lead.
Mavs guard Luka Doncic had the ball in his hands the final seconds before Durant came to double him. Doncic passed the ball to Dinwiddie who hit the game winner. Durant questioned the decision to double Doncic.
“When you watch the last play, just regret, wondering what the game would have been like if I didn’t go jump Luka right there, you know what I’m saying?” Durant said.
The Nets will look to bounce back as they host the Portland Trailblazers Friday.
