Quarterback Russell Wilson is on the move to the Denver Broncos.
Just a couple of hours after Aaron Rodgers made waves in returning to the Green Bay Packers (more on that in a moment), the Broncos acquired Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a huge haul as Seattle begins the rebuilding process.
The Broncos gave Seattle two first round picks, a pair of second round picks, a fifth round pick; quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, and defensive lineman Shelby Harris.
The Seahawks included a fourth round pick to go with Wilson to Denver.
The Broncos had long been rumored to be looking for a veteran quarterback upgrade over Lock, who never panned out in three seasons in Denver.
Many believe the Broncos, who boast the eighth ranked defense in the NFL, and having promising young stars like Melvin Gordon III and Javonte Williams, are just a quarterback away from contending.
Of course that is easier said than done. Wilson joins the Broncos in a stacked AFC West that already features Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, and Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers. The Las Vegas Raiders are nothing to sneeze at either; it will be fascinating to see how Head Coach Josh McDaniels changes the offense.
Wilson, who led the Seahawks to a 43-8 victory over the Broncos eight years ago in Super Bowl XLVIII, had been the lone shining light in Seattle in recent years. As members of those great Seattle teams from the mid-2010's started to leave, it became more and more apparent that Seattle was on the precipice of rebuilding.
Now they go head on into a rebuild mode.
Of course Jets fans love it because Jamal Adams, whom the Jets traded to Seattle for a number of draft picks last year used to complain that New York was not a win-now organization. Well, now the team he is signed long term with, the Seahawks are rebuilding.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers poured some cold water on the reports that he had signed a NFL record $200 million contract over four years to remain in Green Bay. While he acknowledged he would return for the 2022 season, he refuted the report he signed a deal. Here we go again!
Oh well, the Packers did ink Rodgers favorite target Devante to a franchise tag to return for next season.
