Rutgers baseball remains as hot in the month of February, sweeping a double-header against UNC Wilmington, 12-5 and 2-0. Rutgers is now 5-1 on the season.

The Scarlet Knights were powered by the likes of Tony Santa Maria (3-for-7, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI, HR in the two games) and Richie Schiekofer (3-for-7, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI, a double, and three walks in the two games).

In the opener, Rutgers jumped out all over UNC Wilmington, pounding out 12 runs on 18 hits. Eight of those runs came in the first three innings as Rutgers jumped out to an 8-1 lead midway through the third inning.

Danny DiGeorgio had a huge opener. He had a two-run single in the first inning, an RBI single to center in the second inning, and a RBI double down the right field line in the third inning to cap off the Scarlet Knights early rally.

DiGeorgio finished 3-for-5 with 3 runs score and four RBI in the Game One victory.

Ryan Lasko also had a huge first game, pounding out four hits in six at bats with a pair of RBIs and runs scored. His RBI single in the ninth helped push Rutgers to an 11-2 advantage.

Jared Koller got the victory, allowing two runs on four hits, with three strikeouts over five innings. He is 1-0.

In the nightcap, it was all about pitching. Nathan Florence dominated on the hill for Rutgers, tossing a two-hit shutout over five innings of work. He walked three and struck out nine. In two starts in the early season, Florence has a 1.13 ERA and is 1-0.

Rutgers scratched out the first run of the day on a wild pitch that scored Mike Nyisztor to make it 1-0 in the third inning. An inning later, Tony Santa Maria went deep fly to straight away center to make it a 2-0 ballgame.
