PURDUE 70 - RUTGERS 59

Clinging to a slim 42-41 lead with 5:15 to go in the third quarter, the Scarlet Knights couldn't match the power of the Purdue Boilermakers, who closed out the quarter on a 7-3 run, en route to a 22-14 four quarter in its 70-59 win in Piscataway, Sunday afternoon.

Rutgers and Purdue had gone back and forth for most of afternoon when Jailyn Mason knocked down a three-pointer to give Rutgers the aforementioned 42-41 lead, which capped off a brilliant 8-2 run by the Scarlet Knights.

Purdue quickly answered with Abby Ellis nailed a three to put the Boilermakers back out in front by two-points. Purdue would never look back.

Ellis and Madison Layden dominated, especially in the final quarter. Layden had eight of her 15 points in the final stanza, while Ellis contributed five of her 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Awa Sidibe had a solid effort for Rutgers, leading the team with 12 points. Osh Brown had seven of her nine points in the third quarter that helped Rutgers keep within striking distance of the lead.

Rutgers will take on Iowa on Thursday at 8 p.m. in its final home game of the 2021-22 regular season.
