Rutgers Women’s Lacrosse Names 2022 Team Captains
Ranked 16th in the Nation by the Nike/USA Lacrosse Preseason Poll, the Rutgers Women’s Lacrosse have named four captains for the 2022 season. They are Marin Hartshorn, Stephanie Kelly, Taralyn Naslonski, and Cassidy Spilis.
Per a press release from Rutgers Athletics:
“A 2021 IWLCA All-Region selection, Hartshorn finished second on the team with 18 assists and third with 41 points and 23 goals this past season. The Allentown, New Jersey, native landed on the 2021 All-Big Ten Tournament team when she combined for 12 draw controls, three goals and an assist during RU’s conference tournament run and four draw controls and a goal in the Scarlet Knights’ second-round NCAA Tournament game against No. 6 Stony Brook.
“Kelly joins the program after an impressive career at St. Joseph’s, where she earned 2021 Atlantic-10 Co-Offensive Player of the Year accolades. Kelly helped St. Joseph’s to 10 wins and an appearance in the A-10 title game during the 2021 campaign, as she finished as the conference leader in points (91) and assists (46). A native of Melbourne, Australia, Kelly finished as St Joseph’s all-time leader in assists (109) and second in points (237). For her career, Kelly has produced 237 points, 127 goals, 109 assists, 41 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers in 62 career games.
“One of the most prolific scorers in program history, Naslonski finished as the team’s leader in points (57) and assists (23) to go along with 34 goals this past spring. The Randolph, New Jersey, native scored the 100th goal of her career in 2021 and currently owns 176 career points, good for sixth all-time at Rutgers. The 2021 IWLCA All-Region pick and Second Team All-Big Ten selection was the team’s leading scorer in both NCAA Tournament games last spring, which included seven points on four goals and three assists against Drexel.
“Already one of the most decorated individuals in program history, Spilis was named a 2022 preseason All-American by both Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse Magazine. An IWLCA and Inside Lacrosse All-America selection, Spilis finished first on the team in goals (49) and second in points (52), draw controls (65) and caused turnovers (27) in 16 games during the spring campaign. The 2021 First Team All-Big Ten selection finished fourth in the conference with 3.06 goals per game and secured a career-high nine goals in Rutgers’ semifinal loss to No. 2 Northwestern en route to IWLCA Player of the Week accolades.”
The season begins February 12 when Rutgers visits Delaware. The home opener for the Lady Scarlet Knights is February 16 against Army, weather permitting.
