Last night the Rutgers women’s basketball team lost their ninth straight Big Ten game as they traveled to Maryland to face the number 17 team in the country. Forward Osh Brown got her seventh double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Destiny Marshall was able to help out scoring 10 points as well. Others made an impact on the game, guard Sayawni Lassiter had a pair of threes and had four assists. Guard Jailyn Mason was good on defense with three steals and had seven points.
Maryland jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the opening quarter. The Scarlet Knights would come back in the second with a 6-2 run. The Scarlet Knights kept the game in single digits as Maryland hit a cold stretch but, Rutgers couldn’t take advantage as they had five turnovers in the final two minutes of the first half. In the third Rutgers opened up with a pair of threes and went on a 10-2 run. This run put Rutgers within one of Maryland, but that would soon be short lived as Maryland went on a 10-0 run to put them back in control of the game.
The Scarlet Knights held Maryland 10 points under their scoring average and forced them to have 18 turnovers while only averaging 12. Rutgers was not able to keep control of the ball themselves as they turned the ball over 26 times in last night’s game. Rutgers will try to get their first Big Ten win as they face Michigan State Sunday at 2 p.m. at Jersey Mike’s Arena.
