Rutgers Men’s Basketball Travels to Nebraska
Saturday the Rutgers men’s basketball team will be traveling to Nebraska to face the Cornhuskers. The Scarlet Knights will be looking to bounce back after their lost to Maryland on Tuesday. The Scarlet Knights are now 5-4 in conference play and a win will keep them in the middle of the pack in a deep Big Ten conference.
Despite their record the Scarlet Knights have been great. They have the second best scoring defense in the conference, fourth in the conference in team assists (308) and third in steals (136). Junior guard Paul Mulcahy is second in the conference in total assists (98) and third in assists per game with 5.16. Senior guard Caleb McConnell is first in steals (41) and first in steals per game in the conference (2.16).
The Cornhuskers have the best freshman in the conference in Bryce McGowens. He is the leading scorer averaging 16.1 points per game, he shoots 40.5% from the field and 83.8% from the free throw line. Backcourt partner Alonzo Verge Jr. is averaging 14.1 points per game and leads the team in assist with 5.3.
On January 8th the Scarlet Knights and Cornhuskers faced off at Jersey Mike’s Arena where the Scarlet Knights came out with the victory 93-65. The Scarlet Knights had a historical night, scoring the most points in a Big Ten game in school history. They shot 58.3% from the field the best for them in a Big Ten game and they had 23 assists, the most ever in a Big Ten game.
The Scarlet Knights will look to repeat their big win over Nebraska again Saturday at 6:30.
