Are the New York Giants about to lose Brian Daboll to the Miami Dolphins?
According to multiple reports the Buffalo Bills Offensive Coordinator is a perceived favorite to land the job with the Miami Dolphins, keeping him in the AFC Eastern Division. Daboll had two interviews with the Giants, including an in-person interview on Tuesday before the sides parted ways.
If Daboll does indeed become the head coach of the Dolphins that could leave the Giants with their choices could come down to former Dolphins Head Coach Brian Flores and Dallas Cowboys Defensive Coordinator Dan Quinn.
Flores is expected to interview in New Jersey today for the Giants job.
Ironically, Flores was fired after the season paving the way for Daboll to head to Miami. Flores went 24-25 in three seasons in Miami. A lot of people are high on Flores because the Dolphins went 8-1 after a 1-7 start to the season to finish just short of a playoff berth. The Dolphins never made the playoffs in Flores three seasons.
The criticism of Flores is that he struggled to develop quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, hired and fired a number of offensive coordinators during his tenure there, and apparently butted heads with the front office. Over the last year there were rumors linking Flores to pushing Miami to trade for Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson before his legal troubles kicked in.
There were rumors this month that Flores wanted to link up with Watson at his next coaching stop, however Giants owner John Mara said Big Blue would not make that move. According to the Daily News, Flores is still a serious candidate for the Giants, even if they don't trade for the troubled Texans star.
Meanwhile the coaching carousel is spinning across the league. The Denver Broncos have named former Green Bay Packers offensive Coordinator Nathanial Hackett its new Head Coach. That could mean Aaron Rodgers might not be too far behind to the Mile High City. The Chicago Bears have also made a head coaching hire, tapping Colts Defensive Coordinator Matt Eberflus.
