Steve Cohen is definitely not fooling around. And he is letting the boys in the Bronx know about it.
The New York Mets agreed to terms with Eric Chavez to become their new hitting coach, the latest addition to Buck Showalter's coaching staff. If Chavez's name sounds familiar, it should. Because a month ago, the Yankees agreed to terms with Chavez to become their assistant hitting coach (emphasis on assistant)!
The Mets coaching staff is starting to shape up with Joey Cora as third base coach, Wayne Kirby as first base coach, and the only holdover from the previous regime, Jeremy Hefner as pitching coach.
Chavez has a good working relationship with GM Billy Eppler, who got to know Chavez when the later played third base for the Yankees in 2011 and '12. Chavez spent most of his playing career with the Oakland A's from 1998 to 2010 where he was a six-time Gold Glover at third base.
