Fans of the Star Wars franchise got their hopes up during last week's Game Awards in which a new star wars game was announced. The title Star Wars Eclipse is being developed by Quantic Dream a well-known company for gaming hits like Detroit: Become Human and the heavy hitting Heavy Rain. Both games are narrative driven games where your actions have a heavy influence on characters, relationships and the overarching story as you shape the world around your choices. Based off the Star War Eclipse website It’s suspected that as with their other titles you will have a variety of characters to play as and your choices will have consequences to the story acting as a morality system.
Now for the games actual plot, it was revealed that Star Wars Eclipse will be taking place during the High Republic Era. For those who don’t know this is before the events of the main film franchise but is considered the golden age for the Jedi order. We even see a short clip of Jedi Grandmaster Yoda in the Jedi Temple possibly teasing that he or the planet Coruscant will be somehow involved. However, it was stated that the game will be involving a new set of characters so, we truly won’t know who or what is in the game until it’s released.
Something we do however know is that the Trade Federation will be a part of the story as multiple clips of the organization can be seen throughout the trailer. As well as a new unknown foe with an army that appears to be a possible main antagonist within the game.
While new and old fans are both hyped up for the games release unfortunately, they may have to wait a bit longer as no official release date for the title was given. However, unconfirmed reports state that that the team handling the project is understaffed and it may take years to finish. This is coming from Tom Henderson a freelancer who made this post.
His claims are that the Quantic Dream staff in Paris and Montreal are understaffed thus leading to a possible push back of the project. Again, these claims are unconfirmed by Quantic Dream themselves however they did make a tweet prior to the world premiere that they are hiring for upcoming projects. Fans are hoping for a multiplatform release instead of an exclusive, as that information has yet to be disclosed. Overall Star Wars Eclipse looks to be an action packed narrative driven game that both Lucas Films Games and Quantic Dream are excited to work on as we slowly reach the end of the year.
